50s Clothing for Men
The fifties: the post-war decade of celebrity, quiffs, and casual clothes. From suave crooners to Elvis Presley’s rock ‘n roll, the era heralded male grooming. Formal attire, such as waistcoats, shirts and collars were still prominent but casual clothes like Levi's denim and t-shirts were becoming increasingly popular.
After the war, trade expanded, new industries evolved and factories had more fabrics to work with than ever before. Polyester, wool, linen, cotton and the likes paved the way to new ways of making clothes in mass. This meant clothes became much easier to wash and maintain. As a result, new colours and textures were introduced, as men’s casual clothing began to boom.
