The History of Streetwear
Streetwear gave way to freedom of style expression. Everything we see now in contemporary fashion is influenced by the beginnings of street style. The style of dressing can be traced back to the subcultures of the 70s, 80s and 90s, from punks to hip-hoppers to skaters.
Although there are many groups of streetwear, it’s generally marked by casual clothing and vintage branded clothing. Streetwear saw in key style moments like 90s double vintage denim and the transformation of workwear brands like Carhartt and Dickies, into fashion brands. People like Virgil Abloh transformed outdoor brands like Patagonia into coveted fashion brands.
